How to Get the Best Out of Your RP!
Hey, everyone! As the board continues to grow, we have noticed there are a couple of things that you should remember when posting to get the best out of your experience here!- PAY ATTENTION to what others are saying in the thread and read everything CAREFULLY.
It's all fine to do whatever you want in a thread, but please acknowledge what people say in the thread. If someone says they levitated a book, don't try and change it to the point where they are levitating a chair. Or little things, like when Amber is sitting behind a Hufflepuff in class, pay attention and don't post that you walked into the classroom and sit behind the same Hufflepuff Amber had just sat behind. It can be annoying. We understand that these mistakes happen, so if you see a mistake, correct yourself! - Reply in one full paragraph or more!
This is the best way to get the most amount of detail out of your reply. It is extremely hard to work with one sentence responses. It's like when you're texting someone, and they reply with one word like "haha" or "lol" or "oh". What are you suppose to reply to that? Remember that the more detail you have in your threads and replies the better result you will get from others, as they have more to build off of in their replies. REMEMBER: We are NOT asking you to type an essay. Just a handful of sentences that other people can work with. The whole reason why Amber created this forum is because she was a bit intimidated by other Harry Potter roleplay forums because everyone had big, long essay posts. - Always talk in third person.
It is always recommended that you roleplay in the third person, mostly to give people a more neutral view on your character. If you use words and subjects such as I , we, us, and any other first person terms, things can become confusing jumping from different points of views, so try to keep it third person! - Make sure you have proper spelling and grammar.
Some of you might find this as no big deal, but there are others who find that this is important. It is, in a sense, as people want to understand what you say. We're not asking you to write an essay in perfect format, it's just that sometimes it's hard to understand what you're trying to write. For some of you, this is can be hard, we understand. The admins talk to people everyday that have dyslexia. However, if you CAN help it, please try and be as grammatically correct as you can. - Post often and Regularly!
The only way to keep things lively is to make sure things are always going on! Remember to post and reply to threads you have entered, and try your best to finish what you started. if you find that there is nothing you can do or enter, make your own thread, some one is always willing to join a new one! - Control is everything and nothing.
You are all aware that you have full control over your character, but as of right now, members have the right to control teachers(NPCs). This is the exception in controlling others. Teachers and any other staff can be controlled by any member, but please be realistic with what you do with them. Don't make them hate one student and love you without very good reasoning. When you do control a teacher, they should mostly be associated with your character only.
Also, there are events in where certain actions have to be done at the same time. This is also exception when you are in a group. For example, if you and three others have detention, you should associate your action, and give a general statement about the rest, such as:
"As Carter began scrubbing the trophy plaques, everyone else began to get to their designated points and begin cleaning their part of the room. It was boring and tiring, and Carter could see after a while, they were all getting a bit bored of their punishment."
There shouldn't be any direct control, and enough room to work with.
I hope this helps with your fun here at Muggles Do Magic!
